Two exciting tales of adventure ring in the festive season. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is the long-awaited follow-up to the first Sherlock Holmes movie, released in 2009. This time, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary spy and his sidekick, Dr. Watson, investigate the case of a murdered Austrian prince, and are drawn into Europe’s vast criminal underworld.

This month, the festive season brings with it a multitude of long-awaited films based on books. Although it’s “the happiest time of the year,” the big screen is primarily featuring dark, twisted tales. But you’re guaranteed to be entertained by thrills and suspense, and there are a few heartwarming stories in the mix to carry the holiday spirit.

Ever since 1929, the French comic book artist Hergé has been spinning thrilling tales of Tintin, a curious young reporter, and his faithful dog Snowy. Now, on December 21st, The Adventures of Tintin, based on the comic book series, comes to the big screen. The film follows Tintin and Snowy as they discover a ship with a centuries-old mystery and get drawn into a desperate chase from a deadly villain. The two travel halfway around the world in search of The Unicorn, a shipwreck that may hold the key to a fortune, and are swept into exhilarating adventures along the way.

November 2011

On November 18th, the long-awaited next installment of The Twilight Saga will finally be released. Although BREAKING DAWN concludes the book series, all you “Twihards” out there know that this final novel will be split into two different films. In Breaking Dawn – Part 1, Bella Swan and Edward Cullen are finally married, but an unplanned pregnancy sets a deadly chain of events in motion. And hitting the big screen on the 23rd is Hugo, directed by Martin Scorsese and based on Brian Selznick’s THE INVENTION OF HUGO CABRET. Hugo is a young orphan boy who is secretly living inside the walls of a busy Paris train station in the 1930s, and a mysterious mechanical man draws him into a thrilling adventure.

On November 18th, the long-awaited next installment of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga will be in theaters. Although BREAKING DAWN concludes the book series, all you “Twihards” out there know that this final novel will be split into two different films. In Breaking Dawn – Part 1, Bella Swan and Edward Cullen are finally married. But during their honeymoon in Rio de Janeiro, Bella becomes pregnant and her life is suddenly thrown into terrible danger.

Here, the Musketeers must battle a seductive double agent to protect the French throne and save Europe from war.
