Rachel Holloway landed a comfortable job with a small local paper in London where she lives with her boyfriend and their young daughter. She does the bookkeeping, which keeps her neatly tucked away and safe from prying eyes. That is, until her boss, Chris, announces that they have decided to host a podcast. It will be an investigative dive into the notorious murder of the Forster family 12 years ago --- and, more importantly, will launch a search for the one person in the house that night who got away: little Molly Forster.
Anything but that! For Rachel, this “Missing Molly” podcast is the worst thing she could imagine. She argues vehemently against the idea, growing nearly hysterical, to the amazement of her coworkers. After all, it really is a brilliant subject. The trouble is they don’t know her darkest secret: Rachel is Molly Forster. She has spent all these years since the murders feverishly trying to remain hidden, carefully building new identities, because the man accused of the brutal crime was innocent and the real killer is still out there. And he will stop at nothing to silence her.
"MISSING MOLLY will take readers on quite a rollercoaster ride as there are many twists and turns along the way.... Pick up the book and have a fun time finding out what’s really going on here."
So now Rachel must keep the podcast from going forward. But how? According to Chris, either “Missing Molly” succeeds or they could lose their jobs. The future of their little paper depends on it. Rachel can’t risk their employment, but she also can’t risk their lives. So she decides that if she can’t stop them from investigating, at least she can maneuver the investigation in the direction she wants. None of them could have foreseen how wildly successful “Missing Molly” would become. The tip lines light up, the emails flow, and they even get a mention in the paper. However, not all of the comments are kind, helpful or valid. Plenty of threats pour in. And with the podcast’s popularity, dangerous people with their own dark intentions start to appear.
Finally, a desperate Rachel knows that she has to come clean in order to save her friends. But when she tries, it backfires. Everyone believes she’s delusional. And maybe she is. After all, she’s been obsessed with the Forster case for years. Plus she’s claiming that her best friend’s new beau is a monster whom she knew long ago. So where’s the proof? The massive amounts of attention garnered by “Missing Molly” could be playing with Rachel’s mind and could have pushed her over the edge. Her friends and family are worried. Maybe her psychiatrist should be consulted to consider if she ought to be hospitalized again. It helped the last time.
For Rachel, things couldn’t get worse. She had a psychotic break in the past. Or at least that’s what they said. Now no one believes her when she says that she really is Molly Forster. Honestly, though, why would they? All these years she desperately has tried to keep anyone from finding her. So now, confronted with her confession, everyone refuses to accept it. The little girl who fought so hard to stay hidden will now have to fight even harder to prove that she’s the one survivor of the infamous Forster case.
MISSING MOLLY will take readers on quite a rollercoaster ride as there are many twists and turns along the way. Rachel Holloway became Rachel Holloway for a reason, so she won’t let go of that name unless she absolutely must. The podcast forces her to reexamine the years between today and the murder of her family 12 years ago. Pick up the book and have a fun time finding out what’s really going on here.
