When reading either fiction or non-fiction, what period in history do you most like to read about?

C17itzme@aol.com
World War II, Pacific or European theatre & even at home. Such an intense, important & yet innocent time period. A time we must never forget.

Stan192@aol.com
I like to read contemporary biographies or autobiographies....of successful persons. Your site is excellent. Continued success.

PPartri727@aol.com
For me the 100 plus years between 1760 and 1880 in the development of the United States is by far the most interesting era to read about.

MScaramell@aol.com
Nineteenth century New York

JAVAKHAN@aol.com
Hello. I would enjoy reading crime fiction from the 1920's or 1930's.

LGreenw832@aol.com
Really like late 1800's-early 1900's English novels.

JGB41056@aol.com
1700s and the Civil War

DCCJ1@aol.com
If I'm reading fiction, anything about Europe from the beginning of time to the 19th Century qualifies. When it comes to nonfiction, European history or even human interest works between the World Wars really fascinates me.

JHahn15878@aol.com
I read a lot of non fiction about World War II - various aspects, mostly the European conflict.

HOSTOPRHLadyj@aol.com
Mid medieval - 1066 - 1200

JJMMcCann@aol.com
Definitely the medieval period. Just the fact that people survived to adulthood in such conditions is fascinating. Some of the royal battles are better than soap operas!

LMorris804@aol.com
I'm pretty general in my historical reading. For example, I'm currently reading Roosevelt and Churchill, Men of Secrets by David Stafford and have Queen Victoria by Christorpher Hibbert checked out from the library. A favorite era is, however, that of the U. S. Civil War.

Fafajane@aol.com
I enjoy reading about the Civil War era and also WWII.

Jaws451@aol.com
American Civil War

BookmRita@aol.com
I like to read about the Civil War era the best--both fiction and nonfiction. It was an important period in our history and challenged the people of this country and that time to the utmost. I find it fascinating.

ATESSL@aol.com
My favorite time period in fiction is the present day, or from about 1960 onward. In nonfiction, I prefer to read about the lives of kings and queens, from the Middle Ages on to Victorian times.

Kufungee@aol.com
Civil War

hawki75@juno.com
I can't boil it down to one. I read mostly nonfiction, and the two periods I read the most about are the U.S. Civil War and World War II. I hesitate to call them "favorites" because although they were both heroic times, they were both also horrific times. Just one man's opinion.

RichFlagg@aol.com
The time period that I would have to say is my favorite to read in fiction or nonfiction would have to be Ancient Greece or Roman times. This time period so fascinates me that when I attended the University of Colorado I took the Alexander the Great and the Hellenistic World class even though it wasn't for my major.

jsmith1028@mediaone.net
Time frame around the American Revolution, all aspects.

SandyB@ntown.com
Fiction: Any period, but especially the 80s and 90s.
Non-Fiction: 30s because I'm an Art-Deco and golden age of Hollywood nut!

WNTBERRY@aol.com
I most like to read about pre - Civil War United States.

Nana1248@aol.com
When I was younger, the romantic era of the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, but now it's books set in the present

NGrande1@aol.com

DavidS6880@aol.com
the civil war deedledeedum@msn.com
I most enjoy reading about the early 20th Century. Especially when the story takes place in New York.

Drew98chic@aol.com
I love reading and i read a great deal, and I've realized that the books i enjoy most take place during the Victorian Era or the French Revolution. I also enjoy books that take place in the Civil War.

SCarey77@aol.com
What period of history do I like to read about?

Any of the many periods called Antebellum, pre Civil War and up to and including all of WWII, in American History. I grew up on the romance novels of the War Between the States and the slave period, and find it still excites me.

Moonshame@aol.com
The old west

Cipsi2@aol.com
1850-1900

SMSEIFR@aol.com
The Civil War and the Great Depression are both facinating periods of American history.

Jaebord@aol.com
I like to read about WW I because there is not much written in Fiction about it. I like to read about this period of history that no one really talks about.

Andie1040@aol.com
present day that is my lifetime - get enough of history in school

Graham2124@aol.com
Although I love to read historical books, both fiction and nonfiction, of any period, I do have some favorites. I have a small library devoted to British history, especially books regarding the Middle Ages and the Elizabethian Era. The American Civil War holds a special fascination, as do books on World War II. The biographies I read center around those periods, e.g. Robert the Bruce, Henry II, Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Abraham Lincoln, etc. About 70% of the books I read are related to history.

HEAVYLENNY@aol.com
I am most enamored of World War II and espionage & POW camp stories. Second is the Revolutionary War period followed by medieval days.

j.stienstra@quicknet.nl
the period in history i'm still most interested is the second world war, especially about Hitler (Ian Kershaw, for instance and Alan Bullock) and the Holocaust. How could this happen, how could one nation so fanattically stand behind this man? It keeps fascinating me.

Jflohr14@aol.com
I like history fiction as a whole. I think that I like starting from Revolutionary war era, civil war, Imigration and even the second world war.

RobertW841@aol.com
The future.

Moonstep@aol.com
I enjoyed reading early century Gothic when there is a good one out there. by Barbara MIchaels or Phyllis Whitney. But most of the time I like present day stuff.

GoFSUNoles@aol.com
prefer civil war and pre-civil war, i.e., old west of 1849 for u.s. history. spanish history period of the Aztec's and Mayan's especially in the Caribbean all oriental history pre-world war II. very interested in southeast asia/french-indo China. Asian history to include India/Pakistan are interesting find most european history boring tales about 'sir' this and 'king' that or 'queen' something or other being more romantic and boring rather than adventurous european history seems to be a modern day soap opera which is disgusting. hope i covered it well enough to answer ur question.

SportsNmusic1750@aol.com
i usually like to read about the times during the signing of the constitution:1776. its very intersting to me and i think that others should also take the time to learn more about our great nation.

JEarh13191@aol.com
The Civil War

Peachcesca3@aol.com
1800's England

Whimsey03@aol.com
I almost always favor late 19th or early 20th century lit. I just like a time when life was not quite so automated yet it was a more developed civilization. It was just a fascinating time of change and yet had not quite reached the rapid explosion of technology and development that would come decades later.

Meenmomx3@aol.com
I am very drawn to reading anything about WWII.

ShaneC2000@aol.com
Personally, I prefer the World War II era, and early Cold War period. During that time, our society aligned itself in one of the most heroic struggles ever, and we proved to ourselves and to our posterity, that we could overcome all odds, and defeat those who would oppress and destroy others. It was a time like no other, when our virtues shined as bright as our hopes for a better world.

Blkbak@aol.com
Either fiction or non-fiction, I like to read about the Depression era. I think maybe people learned to appreciate life more during those times.

Shell725@aol.com
My favorite period is the Old West. Love the atmosphere, the clothing, the simplicity of life. I also love Native American culture.

Bltwich@aol.com
I enjoy reading about England in the Medieval period of history; of course this is fictional generally. Some of my favorites have been the mysteries of Ellis Peters or Edith Pargeter.

Lankford0714@aol.com
Civil War

Chrishaack@aol.com
I love to read about WW 2. Second choice would be The Civil War. I really enjoyed the last book I read, Eye of the Storm. An excellent collection of letters from a Civil War soldier.

kaos@bhsu.edu
My favorite period to read about, without question, is the Middle Ages.

MalaikaNM@aol.com
Turn of the century. How folks survived (rather, how they managed quite nicely) without all the creature comforts to which we have become accustomed.

Kclynn1525@aol.com
I like Georgian England. Especially from 1800-1824. And late Victorian England. the 1870's to early 1900's. Those two periods were so rich in events and personalities. I also like ancient history. Greece, Rome, and Egypt. Delving into old cultures is exciting.

Mars2437@aol.com
Recently, my attention has turned to late the 18th Century

kdushin@denvermail.com I like to read about the pioneer days in America. It always makes my hectic life seem easier. One day I was reading a book about this period while my laundry was washing itself in the washing machine. Laundry has never felt so decadent. I cannot imagine the fortitude of the people who made it all the way across this wild country.

BPillman@msn.com
Egyptian period.

HGMenocal@aol.com
The period I most enjoy is ancient Rome, followed by Victorian England.

Bengtabks@aol.com
One area that has been neglected is the second half of the 19th century, but there have been several good books recently, including Ahab's Wife, that describe the era. I think the abolition, underground railroad and women's rights efforts will get more attention in the year ahead. Ken Burns' Not for Our Selves Alone is fantastic. Susan B. Anthony might even get her dollar back!

MSJJHC@aol.com
I like books that take place in present day or that follow a family story through many generations, the particular time period doesn't matter.

ENGLISHJIMMY@aol.com
I enjoy reading about the Depression and the Russian Revolution

HukIke@aol.com
I enjoy reading about most any operiod of history, but, I find that the period around WWII and the Korean War hold the most interest for me, I am certain because I lived through the era.

KVogelbaug@aol.com
1960-1970
