Last night I attended an author event at the Clinton Book Shop, which is located near my home in New Jersey, where Elizabeth Noble was reading from and talking about her new book, Things I Want My Daughters to Know. Many of you know Elizabeth from her previous books The Reading Group, The Friendship Test and Alphabet Weekends. One of my favorite moments of the evening came when a woman in the audience mentioned that she and her husband were going to be empty nesters in the near future, and they were embarking on their own version of the adventures based on the alphabet adventures in Alphabet Weekends.
Do you ever get your book club selections from the library?

I spent last week at the Public Library Association National Conference in Minneapolis, MN. Let me tell you, librarians have it figured out. If you don't know what programs your local library is offering, I definitely recommend looking into them. Some of the buzz at the conference was about graphic novels --- I know a lot of you are big fans. In the months to come we'll be adding reviews of graphic novels, but in the meantime check out our manga reviews.
Given the current economy, are you going to the library to borrow books more these days? How often do you go to the library? At the library what do you borrow most often?

Monday I flew to Minneapolis for the Public Library Association National Conference. I had been to Minneapolis many years ago when I worked at Mademoiselle magazine when I did a series of fashion shows/makeover events at some Dayton Hudson stores. That trip was a blur with something like six makeover events in six cities in North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin in six days. I should have known that this was just training for my whirlwind life today.
