This month, we are really excited to share our readers’ selections of their Top 10 Favorite Discussion Books, which were gathered from the submissions in our ReadingGroupGuides.com 10th Anniversary Contest. Stephen Bedford in our office had the yeoman’s task of compiling the top selections from more than 12,000 entries, so a huge round of applause to him for a job well done. After he tracked the top titles, a small group of us met and looked deeper at your selections. We had fun doing this as we found ourselves remembering familiar titles, learning about some new ones, and getting to know your groups better as we read through your lists. We felt we were at the table with many of you as the personality of a group can come forth by looking at their selections. If you were blown away by Danny Elfman's soundtrack work on Batman way back in 1989, you'll be interested in hearing that Elfman's long collaborative history with Burton is about to get a huge retrospective (with a huge price tag to match). The Danny Elfman & Tim Burton 25th Anniversary Music Box is being released in a limited-edition box set (only 1,000 copies are being made) that will be available in December.

Late September 2010

This week, we moved servers for our websites, which is always an experience that sounds easier than it is. As a result, some things are not working quite right, and there were a few hours that you might not have been able to “find us” during the week. We hope to have all our contest entry forms (including Word of Mouth) and our poll and question pages fixed as quickly as possible. First, we are trying to figure out why they are not performing right! We apologize for the lateness of this newsletter, and we thank you in advance for your patience. In the meantime, we’ve set up a few workarounds for our current Book Club and Grab Bag contests so you can still enter.

I love that all of our regular contributors are getting out to the book festivals in and around where they live.  Well of course they are.  They wouldn't be regular contributors here on the RGG blog if they weren't book lovers.  Yesterday we heard from Heather Johnson on the Baltimore Book Festival and today Denise Neary shares some of the "wonder" of the National Book Festival in DC.
