Interview: H. N. Kowitt, author of The Loser List

Apr 1, 2011

In THE LOSER LIST, a boy named Danny, who crosses his name off the "Geek" list in the girls' bathroom, becomes friends with kids who used to tease him when they discover he can draw. But Danny, enjoying his new "bad boy" status among the bullies, must make a decision when his new pals steal a comic book.

I got tired of waiting for spring to arrive in New York (the snow on April 1st put me over the edge), so I flew down to Coral Gables last week for “Spring Break” to kick back with a week of reading and hanging out by the pool. And oh, I swam some laps, too, trying to get back in shape after a winter of cocooning in the house. Swimming is a lot more fun than walking on the treadmill, and it immediately got me out of the winter blues as did some days of just reading, which is quite a treat! If you want to know some of the books I read, check out the latest edition of the Bookreporter.com newsletter here.

I'm a big fan of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, and I really loved the first film adaptation. So I'm thrilled to see that the sequel, Rodrick Rules, made a huge impact at the box office this weekend. It's such a funny, delightful series that I hope its $24.4 million weekend (beating out Sucker Punch) will draw a lot of attention to these worthwhile books.
At Bookreporter.com, we have the opportunity to read many great books well in advance of their release dates. Interview: Aaron Rintoul, author of Masks

Mar 31, 2011

A bold experimental work, Masks is a new story from writer/artist Aaron Rintoul and published by Septagon Studios. The story follows a woman named Sara, who captures glimpses of people’s past lives and other jarring events. Meanwhile, she tracks a killer in a tale that is both haunting and jarring. But even more affecting is the stunning artwork, a mixture of digital photography and painting. We talked to Rintoul about how he made it all work.
